Deadstock Redesign

FORME provides a structured redesign service for existing materials, helping transform selected deadstock into meaningful, high-value outcomes through licensed design, local making, and recorded provenance.

Where excess stock becomes stranded in market, FORME provides a structured local pathway for redesign, adaptation, and renewed value.

Not all materials are suitable. Only viable transformations are activated.

Why this exists

Deadstock redesign through FORME creates an alternative to disposal, discounting, and unstructured reuse. It supports designers, makers, and those commissioning work through a bounded process that protects quality, authorship, and traceability.

How it works

  1. Submit materials and briefProvide details of available stock, intended use, and the context for redesign.
  2. Material reviewA maker assesses quality, construction integrity, and feasibility. Not all submissions are accepted.
  3. Activate a designA FORME design is licensed for one instantiation within a defined period.
  4. Exploration phaseMaterial testing, sampling, and maker notes are developed before production. This phase is funded in advance.
  5. RealisationThe design is executed locally, adapting to material and context while remaining within licensed parameters.
  6. Provenance recordedThe transformation is documented as part of the completed work.

Activation types

Conceptual Interpretation

Exploratory, idea-led outcomes using existing materials. Not necessarily production-ready.

Structured Redesign

Controlled adaptation within defined design parameters, producing a refined one-off result.

Production-Ready Realisation

Fully resolved, wearable or usable outcomes suitable for end use.

Standards

  • Materials must meet minimum quality requirements.
  • Makers may accept or decline submissions.
  • All work is carried out within licensed design parameters.
  • Outcomes are intended to be lasting, not disposable.

Key terms

  • One license permits one instantiation only.
  • Activation must occur within one year of purchase.
  • Exploration time and materials are funded before production begins.
  • Completed works are recorded within the FORME provenance system.

Designer standards

  • Define clear design parameters.
  • Allow controlled interpretation, not unrestricted change.
  • Maintain authorship integrity across outcomes.

Maker standards

  • Demonstrate technical competence.
  • Assess material viability honestly.
  • Retain authority to accept or decline unsuitable work.
  • Document process where required.

Apply for redesign

Submit an application outlining materials, context, and design intention. Suitable applications may proceed to review and activation through FORME. Approved applicants continue with steward access to guide the redesign process.

FORME does not process excess at scale.

It selectively transforms what is worth carrying forward.
